Crossroads in Garema Place

Many thanks to those who put so much effort into this event. The rain stopped at just the right moment to make it possible and given the conditions of the afternoon and early evening, I was surprised by how many people showed up.
For those of you who made it along, feel free to share a thought or two...or a highlight.

  1. Good morning. Just a short note to let you know last nigt at Garema Place was most enjoyable... the drizzle and pancakes added to the fun. We have wondered how about something similar for 24 December?

  2. I loved singing all together in the middle of civic! It was fantastic! I thought the service was the perfect length too... not too long that you were sick of standing around but enough content to engage the brain and heart!
I would be very enthusiastic about doing it again, even more than once a year I reckon!

  3. It was fantastic! I did my fair share of whinging about the rain, but in hindsight I reckon it added to the feeling of solidarity and joy. God totally knew what he was doing - no surprises there...

I know it was a bit of a mammoth effort, but I reckon it'd be amazing if we could make that a semi-regular thing. It was great to see people stopping as they passed, and CITC people keen to chat to strangers, and also to see the whole church loving singing God's praises together so publicly. How encouraging!

    God is good!

  4. What an amazing night!! i left my warm lounge - as you all did - fully expecting nothing to be happening in garema pl. as i headed to find 'everybody' in Gus's i was overjoyed to hear the music playing and a host of umbrellas! Yah! it really showed that we have something important to share with canberra - even in such horrible weather !Blessings - Sue

  5. I really enjoyed the night.
It was incredible to see so many people joyfully showing up in the rain, showing their commitment to meeting together, and seeing the Good News proclaimed. People willingly served in whatever way they could - playing music, ladeling pancakes onto the BBQ, sharing testimonies, talking to strangers, packing up etc.
A real highlight for me was just being able to sing God's praises together in the middle of Canberra - I wanted to sing as loud as I could!!
I really hope we can do things like this again. The fact that we can celebrate Jesus in public is an amazing opportunity and privelege. We should make the most of this, and keep shining a light to our city!

  6. I thought it was a great night - just thought i'd say that I met a guy who was looking for a church that night in the yellow pages, and he couldn't find one. So he went down the street to get a pizza and he found a church...
Was awesome! Praise God that we could Praise God in the streets of Canberra! Blessings, Isaac.

  7. Marcus' sermon was AWESOME! It was perfect for my non-Christian friends who attended! The content couldn't have been more spot on.

    Testimonies were fantastic, too!

  8. Second worst rain I had ever driven in picking up gear before Church but it seemed to go down quite well and a lot more people attended that I thought would happen due to weather. I would definitely be up for a more regular occurence of this during the warmer (drier) months of the year.

  9. I thought it was great. A big group of people, standing in the city in the rain solely because of and for God, what an awesome testimony!

I think my favourite part was seeing the song lyrics, words solely written to praise God, visibly projected above the city, visible to any passer-by.

  10. I second everything that's been said above: singing in the rain showed we really had something worth singing about and a joy not dependant on circumstance; meeting in a public place showed we're not an exclusive cult and our God wants to reach ALL his children; sharing the Word as well as personal stories shows we have clear truth to offer and it is a deeply personal thing to take hold of that truth.

Thanks everyone for all your effort in holding the event. I was really proud to be part of the Crossroads community and my friends enjoyed it despite the rain. They've told me they will come to one of our Manning Clarke services. Praise God! Rach

  11. It was a great night, so good to be in the City, for people to see us and to hear about our Lord. It was good to see many people being welcoming and engaging with people they had not met before.

I would definitely like to continue doing this more regularly. I think it is a good way to engage with Canberrans. They won't know about Jesus if we don't step out, somehow, into the areas where they are.

There was a guy who hadn't been in Canberra for long, but he came to CitC for the first time last night and he said it was something that made coming to Canberra even better and that he'll definitely continue coming.

  12. Don't have much to add really except to say ditto to all of the ablove! What an encouragemant it was to see such a turn out dispite the weather, i think it only added to the display of commitment and to the experience of fellowship, what a good God we serve!

  13. It was a fantastic service! What a great opportunity to proclaim Jesus' name in the middle of Canberra. I know it was a lot of work but I'd love to see it happen again soon, if we can go out in that weather we can do it again rain, hail or shine! Thanks to everyone for all the work that was put in.

  14. The only thing I found a bit confronting was the adaptation in music. I felt like if we had done the songs stock-standard, they would have been more recognizable.

It was great to get out there and be in the city, though! Miserable weather before hand, but I's too dumb to stay dry and too pov' to chill in a caf' - so chilled outside. : )
